One spirit with Him.
1 Corinthians 9:17, But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
Paul had previously gone to some lengths to show that eating meat offered to idols was not inherently a problem, and he had said that “All things are lawful for me.” There were those in that day, just as there are those today who take a specific example and try to generalize it to something unrelated to the subject, like fornication. Paul makes it clear that masticating and fornicating are qualitatively far different, something that ought to be intuitively obvious! There is a spiritual union that takes place, just as it was in the beginning: “And the two shall become one flesh.” Most amazingly, we are offered this amazing intimacy when we are joined to the Lord, to become one spirit with Him! We are joined to the Lord; do we recognize that we are now one spirit with Him?
Thank You that You have adopted us, that we are joined to You; awaken Your Spirit within us!
