Anyone who bears the name of brother.
1 Corinthians 5:9-13, I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
Paul clearly knows that we are saved by grace through faith, and that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. And even he admits that he does not do the good that he wants to do, as do we. We are to judge ourselves first in the power of His Holy Spirit, to invite Him to invade us, to convict us, to remove the log from our own eye before judging another. And we are always to seek first to restore others in a spirit of gentleness and respect, and failing that treat them as an unbeliever and try to win them back. Am I willing to invite the Holy Spirit to invade me, to bring everything into His Holy light by the standard Jesus gave us?
Bring me quickly to repent when I stumble in the face of temptation, to judge the intent of my own heart in Your Holy light!
