You are a temple of God.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17, Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

This is an astonishing truth when we consider Paul’s perspective. The temple was built with protection from any kind of casual contact with the innermost Holy of Holies containing the Ark of the Covenant, where once a year the high priest entered into the presence of God. This was taken seriously and only after being cleansed and protected by the blood of sacrifice. He had a cord tied around his ankle in case he should be destroyed in the presence of the Lord so they could drag him out! Paul could not make this claim lightly, and he leaves little doubt as to how seriously we should take it.

What an amazing responsibility we bear, for He has put His Spirit within us.
We thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit; lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil!
