The first stone.
John 8:7, And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
The rulers thought that they has set a trap for Jesus, but we see His wisdom reigns supreme, for they fell into their own trap! Jesus knew that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and that in the presence of a Holy God no one is perfect. In the presence of the Holy Spirit of God, these rulers were laid bare and we see that beginning with the oldest they left one by one. Jesus offers the same challenge to us, to receive Him, to seek the Holy Spirit’s conviction, to honestly confess our sins before His throne of grace, and to receive His mercy that we may go our way rejoice, and sin no more. Only by His grace and power can we do so!
We thank You for bringing conviction, and for the repentance that leads to righteousness!
