The present form of this world is passing away.

1 Corinthians 7:29-31, This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.

Paul spoke to a particular situation, when the destruction of Jerusalem was imminent, and he qualifies this as being an opinion of his own, not a command from the Lord. Even so, we can benefit from his perspective about time, for no matter how long we live it is but a tiny fragment of history. For we all are one day closer to that day when the present form of this world is passing away by the return of Jesus or else our own departure to be with Him. How should we live today?

Let us do all that we do today as unto You to bring glory to You, letting Your light shine. Give us courage, that we may be ready to make a defense to those who asks us for reason for the hope that is within us, and to do so with gentleness and respect.
