Love builds up.

1 Corinthians 8:1-3, Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.

We are not much concerned these days with eating food offered to idols, but the precepts remain. We often act in ways that are pleasing to ourselves; Jesus calls us to a higher standard, to consider others as more significant than ourselves. And especially for those who do not yet know Him, are we seeking to build them up before the Lord, to pray for them, to see them as He sees them? In looking to others as more significant than ourselves, we begin to glimpse the love of God, who gave His life to set us free from the power of sin and death. Do we love God?

Show us how to love You more each day, that we may be know You more fully and be known by You, O Lord!
