Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.

John 12:12-16, The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.

Those who had seen the miracle of Lazarus raised from the dead honored Jesus as their coming King, for as He said, should they not the very stones would cry out. There were also those who were jealous of this, and even conspired to kill Lazarus to stop Jesus, although the very logic of their plan seems strange since Jesus had the power to raise him again! The prophet Zechariah had seen this day, but even Jesus’ own disciples could not comprehend it until later. From this side of the cross, and knowing that He rose from the dead, we can indeed join in proclaiming Him as King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Come soon, Lord Jesus, and may we be faithful to proclaim Your name until that day!
