“I lay down my life.”
John 10:17-18, For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Jesus makes it very clear that He has laid down His life for us. This is amazing considering that scripture tells us that He had angels ready to rescue Him had He given the word. The idea that we are His sheep, while not at all flattering to us, is no doubt an understatement given our own weakness and failings! And yet He did what no one else could do for us in laying down His life as perfect sacrifice to set us free from the power of sin and death!
We give You thanks and praise and worship at Your feet for being our great Shepherd who laid down Your life for us; show us how to do the same!
