Seeking from Him a sign.

Mark 8:11-12, The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

The religious rulers were not really seeking to know Jesus, but to test Him, to find ways to discredit or accuse Him. How easy it is to fall into the trap of seeking what He can do for us, for some sort of temporary benefit, something like the so-called “prosperity gospel,” which is really no gospel at all. Are we truly seeking to know Him, to have our affections stirred for Him, or just what He can do for us?

Stir our affections for You Lord, that we may know You better each day!
