All is vanity.

Ecclesiastes 1:1-3, The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher, “Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” What advantage does man have in all his work which he does under the sun?

Solomon, son of David, given the gift of wisdom and wealth, sounds an alarm call: in the terms of this finite world, everything is futile. He brings us up short in what may be accomplished in temporal values, even if it is passed on to a thousand generations! We have seen many marvelous inventions in the past hundred years, and yet in them there is nothing new created, nothing new under the sun. This should not lead us to discouragement, but to focus instead on eternal values. It’s not what we gain materially in this life; it’s whose lives will be touched with the love of Christ to be with Him forever.

Give me Your grace and wisdom in touching others with Your love, that they may come to know You and be with You!
