But before faith came.

Galatians 3:23-27, But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

There are still those today who want to return to custody and lock up others with them inside the prison of the law. The purpose of the law is made quite clear, to bring us to our knees, knowing the impossibility of keeping the law! It shows us beyond a doubt that we are desperately in need of help. And all the help we will ever need has been give us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace that we have been save through faith, the gift of God. He will not lose one that He has called!
