A better country.

Hebrews 11:13-16, All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.

We are reminded almost daily that we are strangers and aliens even in the land of the free. Attitudes and values are shifting rapidly in our land; even so, we are blessed in so many amazing ways. Our pastor recently challenged us to seek ways that we can use the blessings that we have to bless others, to push back the darkness in other places that don’t have the many material blessings that we enjoy. There are places both near and far where we can make a difference in the lives of others. Am I willing to forgo some of my own comfort to make a difference for someone else today?

As we look towards the city You have prepared for us, let us not overlook our ability to make a difference here and now, O Lord.
