Were not our hearts burning within us?

Luke 24:30-32, And it came about that when He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. And they said to one another, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?"

In seeing the risen Lord, we could imagine many things that would be memorable. One of the most memorable was His illumination of scripture about Himself. One day we will indeed meet our risen Lord, when He comes again in glory. Now, we have the promise of His Holy Spirit to lead us into His truth. Let us pray for His enlightenment to come to us as we read His word, and may our hearts burn within us.

Come, Holy Spirit, open our eyes, our mind and our hearts as we read Your word.
