You will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:1-5, In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

As Peter has written, they did not follow cleverly devised myths, but were eyewitnesses to His majesty. He stayed with them forty days, clearly alive. And He also made it clear that there was more to come, that they were to wait for the promise of the baptism of the Holy Spirit to be fulfilled. After He ascended to the Father, they did wait for His promise and received the power of the Holy Spirit, who guided and empowered them as His witnesses. And we have that same promise, that He will baptize us with the Holy Spirit. We see a formerly disheartened, fearful band of disciples after the cross transformed by His rising from the grave and now empowered by His Spirit who went forth to proclaim the name of Jesus, willing to lay down their lives for their faith. He promises us that same power as we wait upon Him!

We thank You that it is not by might, nor by power but by Your Spirit that we bring glory to Your name as Your witnesses, O Lord!
