King of Salem, King of peace.

Hebrews 7:1-3, For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.

Abraham had rescued his relative Lot and the Lord had given him victory over the evil kings of the region. We see in Melchizedek a prefigure of Christ in that he is both priest and king. Abraham received a blessing from him, and in recognition of the Lord’s victory gave a tenth of the spoils to him. We have in Christ, fully God and fully man, the King of King and Lord of Lords, a High Priest who is able to be compassionate in that He has been tempted in all ways that we are yet without sin. He is the ultimate Prince of Peace, for all eternity! What will we give Him today as a tithe for all He has done for us?

We give thanks to You Jesus for all that You have done and all that You are going to do; fill us with Your Holy Spirit today to bring glory to Your name!
