Train yourself for godliness.

1 Timothy 4:7-8, Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

When I first started my daily reading, I figured I could squeeze out five minutes of my day somewhere, and setting the alarm a little earlier should do it. As time went on, the time spent reading and meditating increased, and more so when I started writing each day. Today I will spend an hour in the gym with a personal trainer, and there will be lots of others around me who devote many hours every week to that purpose. A few years ago I realized that I had reached an age where my physical training was no longer optional. How well am I doing in my spiritual training? Do I take it as seriously as physical training?

Guide us in all our ways, O Lord; may we devote our time to train ourselves in godliness!
