Attain to the unity of the faith.

Ephesians 4:11-14, And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

There’s no idea of a “church goer” to Paul as there is today. Instead there is the idea of equipping the saints for the work of ministry, and a saint is not some venerated dead guy. The saints are you and I, those whom the Lord has called according to his purpose. Are we seeking to build on what he has given us, and seek to edify others? Peter encourages us: “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.” Our salvation is fully paid up by the blood of Jesus offered on the cross. What are we doing with the light that the Lord has given us?

Give us boldness to use every opportunity to use the light you have given us, as Paul says, to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling!”
