First of all.
1 Timothy 2:1-6, First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Paul lived in a time when the ruler of Rome claimed to be a god, when the his own nation was under siege by foreigners and yet he advocates prayer for those who are in authority. “For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” In our own time, there is much complaining about politicians; what could happen if as much time was spent in prayer for them? Are we taking the time to intercede in prayer for those in authority over us today?
We lift up those who are in authority, and ask that you will give them your wisdom and lead them into the truth of Jesus Christ as Lord.
