He cried out the more.

Mark 10:48, And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

How strange that the those following Jesus would rebuke a blind man for calling out to Jesus in view of his many healing works. And he encourages us to be importunate, as Bartimaeus “cried out all the more!” Could it be that there were those who followed Jesus only out of some sense of religious obligation who were spiritually as blind as Bartimaeus? Could it be that I have my own blind spots that need his mercy? He encourages us to be as importunate as Bartimaeus in asking for his healing. By faith are we made well! “And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.”

Let me recover my sight by faith in your healing touch, Lord Jesus, that I may follow you on the way!
