Be attentive to the prayer.
Nehemiah 1:11, "O Lord, I beseech Thee, may Thine ear be attentive to the prayer of Thy servant and the prayer of Thy servants who delight to revere Thy name, and make Thy servant successful today, and grant him compassion before this man." Now I was the cupbearer to the king.
The book of Nehemiah seems to be a book about doing—undertaking the great work of rebuilding the walls and the temple. It’s really a book of the power of prayer. As one of my teachers noted, great prayer and great revival are always found together, "Prayer is the thin nerve that moves the muscles of omnipotence." We look for ways to do things; Nehemiah got on his knees, confessing the great failings of the nation and reminding God of His faithful promises asking for success and compassion for the day. Jesus constantly went to a lonely place to be near to the Father in prayer. Should we consider doing less?
Keep us focused in prayer as we seek Your success for this day, O Lord.
