A pledge of our inheritance.

Ephesians 1:13-14, In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

Paul introduces us to God’s amazing plan to redeem the whole world, by adopting us into His family through the power of the blood of Jesus Christ. We who have believed have been given His marvelous pledge, His Holy Spirit! A pledge is something of real value given “to secure for the performance of an act.” We are His, redeemed for His purpose!
