For I received from the Lord.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26, For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same way He took the cup also, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
If we stop with the first six words, put on a blind-fold and guess what Paul is going to say, we might imagine some great vista of eternity, or an incredible revelation given to him during his road to Damascus encounter. Instead, he shows us how we can proclaim the hope that is within us, for Jesus not only died, but He rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and will return one day soon. What an amazing expression He has given us, with bread and the cup.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts as we remember You in the breaking of the bread and the drinking of the cup.
