Death to life.
John 5:24-25, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.”
The dead do not hear anything, and the spiritually dead are not capable of hearing or responding to the good news of Jesus Christ. It is only when they are vivified by the power of the Holy Spirit that they can have ears to hear and eyes to see! When we can see others who do not know Him in this way, it is far easier for us to pray along with Christ, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” How much better would our world be if we dropped to our knees in prayer for His new life in the spiritually dead instead of railing against their behavior?
We give thanks that You were pleased to breathe on us, to raise us to Your new life; use us as instruments of Your divine mercy to raise others to life; open their ears that they may hear Your good news and receive You!
