Violent hands.
Acts 12:1-3, About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church. He killed James the brother of John with the sword, and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread.
We have to have the viewpoint of Paul, that to live is Christ, and to die is gain. No matter what they threatened him with, he knew the promise that Jesus is with us always. We don’t much like the idea that good people become martyrs, like James. Yet we also know that the death of a saint is precious in the eyes of the Lord. Peter would be rescued and live for Christ; James gained being in His presence that very day!
Give us Your eternal perspective in all things, Lord!
