By no means, Lord.
Acts 10:14-16, But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.” This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.
I’m so glad for Peter, for I know that I have said the same thing many times: addressing the Lord as Lord and refusing to do the simplest thing that he is asking. Sometimes, like Peter, I have the best reason, for I’ve always done it that way. It’s easy to stay on the beaten path than to really recognize the Lordship of Jesus, to take up my cross and to follow Him. But consider the outcome, the freedom in knowing that our Lord is able to cleanse what has formerly been unclean! And He is always ready to cleanse me even before I realize my own need.
We thank You for Your cleansing touch that we may follow You and keep Your commandments, which are not burdensome!
