Ask, and it will be given to you...

Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

These promises are part of the teaching from Jesus when his disciples asked him to teach them to pray. James encourages us to ask in faith for “the prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” He also warns us against asking out of our old nature, with impure motives, “You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” Yet these promises are here for a reason, when we ask in faith, not doubting to bring glory to God’s name. This ought to be our first response, to ask; and we know for sure that he always gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask!

Give us pure motives with the child-like boldness to ask without doubting and the faith that moves mountains for your glory!
