The Pharisees and the scribes grumbled.
Luke 15:1-2, Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
It’s fascinating to see those who are drawn to Jesus, those recognized by the rulers as beyond redemption and the self-righteous rulers. The criticism arose from the rulers with a vested interest in condemning Jesus for even associating with the recognized sinners. Yet by the standards of scripture, we must give thanks because “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” There is no one alive who is worthy to stand before a Holy God. How wonderful that Jesus tells us the parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin to let us know his priorities. He is the one who is seeking out those who are lost that we might be saved!
We thank you for your amazing grace, that you pursue those who are in the greatest need of your grace and mercy!
