Fire on the earth.
Luke 12:49-51, “I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled! I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.”
John the Baptist said that he would baptize with water, but the One coming, Jesus Christ, would baptize with fire and the Holy Spirit. He was expressing his own distress at his coming baptism by fire in the cross, where all the sin of the world would be dealt with. And he calls us to lay aside our own easy hypocrisy and to come unto him, to lay our burdens down, to give up our heart of stone for the transformed heart of flesh and transformed mind that he has for us. He calls to us to cross that great divide, to be our best for his glory! Are we looking to him, allowing the sword of the Spirit to work on our hearts to be the best we can be for his glory today?
Consume us in your fire, let our hearts blaze to bring glory to your name!
