Give praise to God.
Luke 17:11-19, On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
Jesus indeed had mercy on this group, “untouchables” by the standard of the Law, unclean unless pronounced clean by a priest. And yet only one, a foreigner, a Samaritan no less, recognized that he had been in the presence of someone higher than a priest, in fact Jesus Christ who is prophet, priest and king! How many things do we take for granted, for something we are entitled to, when we should recognize the one who has given us life? How am I at giving thanks and praise to the giver of all life, the Lord Jesus Christ?
We praise you and thank you for this day, for our daily bread and for all the blessings that go far beyond this in saving us from the power of sin and death, for receiving us into your kingdom for all eternity!
