And he will be upheld.
Romans 14:1-4, As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
Paul isn’t talking about matters of weakness in the truth we have believed, but about mattes of opinion and my own convictions. For surely I will be forgiven as I forgive others; he who has been forgiven much will be all the more grateful. And the amazing grace of God is the only thing that can really sustain any us us because even our most deeply held convictions may be violated by circumstance that we face and bring so much stress that we cannot stand. We are cautioned not to be arrogant, and especially if we think we stand strong lest we fall in the face of temptation. And even so, we see God’s grace for it is he who is able to uphold us even in our own weakness!
We are leaning on Jesus, “safe and secure from all alarms ... leaning on the everlasting arms!”
