Living water.
John 4:13-15, Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
What a wonderful progression: Jesus had to pass through Samaria; He is tired from His journey and rests by a well. A Samaritan woman comes to the well to draw water and He says “Give me a drink.” She knew all too well that as a Jew He was not supposed to have anything to do with her! And then He reveals more: if she knew who He was, she could have asked Him, and He “would have given you living water.” His water is not like that of the world, which needs constant replenishment; His water wells up so that streams of living water flow. Her desire is for quenching her physical thirst, but He has much more to offer than meeting a temporary physical need!
Thank You that when we ask You are ready to give us Your living water; let Your springs flow and well up to eternal life!
