“They have no wine.”

John 2:2-5, Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Jesus’ mother tells Him of the need that she sees, with her own desires foremost. His rebuke reminds us that our timing is not His timing, and that our thoughts are not His thoughts: He is sovereign. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” His higher purpose is fulfilled in this first of His signs: “And His disciples believed in Him.”

We thank You that You can use our own imperfect desires to bring forth Your perfect purpose, far higher than our own!
