Every first offspring.

Exodus 13:13-15, “But every first offspring of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and every first-born of man among your sons you shall redeem. And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ then you shall say to him, ‘With a powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. And it came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the Lord killed every first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man and the first-born of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the Lord the males, the first offspring of every womb, but every first-born of my sons I redeem.’”

This was a serious reminder to the people of the next generations of what had happened when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting them go. There was a price paid for their freedom, and there was a reminder of that price with every firstborn son or animal, as an animal had to be sacrificed. He has paid a price for our freedom with His sacrifice on the cross, and this sacrifice never has to be repeated. We can celebrate in a sacrifice of praise as we remember what He has done for us.

Thank You for Your perfect sacrifice; we worship You with our sacrifice of praise!
