Who can stand?

Revelation 6:15-17, Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

Temporal riches and power, while much sought after, are hazardous for it’s possible to delude yourself that you have no one to answer to. In our own time there are those who have discarded traditional ethics to obtain great wealth and power. Indeed sometimes it seems that there is no penalty. But scripture makes it clear that there is a day of reckoning, on which no one will be able to hide. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, we who have turned to Jesus know that the penalty for sin is horrific, yet He has paid the price for us on the cross! Are we faithful to pray for those who think they can stand on their own?

We pray for those that we know who think they can stand on their own before a Holy Judge, that they will come to their senses and run to the cross!
