“And who is my neighbor?”
Luke 10:29, But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
This is like the astonishing statement that “it depends upon what the meaning of ‘is’ is!” Who indeed is our neighbor? The ones who are close to us, in the simplest sense, those who are at hand. Jesus concludes his parable by asking the question, “Who do you think proved to be a neighbor?” and the obvious answer “The one who showed him mercy.” It’s a lot easier to love God than to love your neighbor as yourself, especially if you don’t know him too well! We had a neighbor who we knew all too well, who came to the end of his own rope and who recognized his great need for a Savior and found him in Jesus Christ. Who is your neighbor?
Thank you for neighbors; give us your inspiration to bring your light into their lives!
