They rejoiced because of its encouragement.

Acts 15:30-31, So when they were sent off, they went down to Antioch, and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter. And when they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement.

We see here the first of many letters that are now part of scripture, a letter to confirm salvation is of the Lord and of the removal of that old covenant deep difference between Israel and the Gentiles. And we see that the letter had another wonderful purpose, which is to encourage the new believers in the church at Antioch. There’s more than enough criticism and cynicism in the world to go around today. Are we careful as we communicate with others to be as effective as this short epistle, to honor the name of Jesus and all that he has done, and to build other up and encourage them in his name?

Give us this same tenderness toward other believers to honor your name and to encourage them!
