The promise of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:32-33, This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.

Peter and the other disciples were eye witnesses to Christ, his life, death, resurrection in a glorified body, his ascension and the fulfillment of his promise to send the Holy Spirit. And those present were also witnesses of the power of his Spirit as each one heard the words of the gospel in his own language. While we wonder about why this does not happen today, we know that he is the giver of all of these gifts and works and moves in many ways to advance his plan for the gospel. We must seek him, not his power or his miracles, seek him and ask for him to fill us with his Holy Spirit each day, that his word may go every forth in thought, word and deed.

Fill us with your Holy Spirit, that streams of your living water may flow into this dry and thirsty land!
