And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:1-4, When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Peter later confirms that the gift of the Holy Spirit is for us all; we get confused over the manifestation of those gifts. The apostles, those who walked with Jesus on this earth, were certainly powerfully gifted along with the physical manifestations of power; they would go forth from Jerusalem to all the known world to proclaim the gospel to other nations and would go to a martyrs death rather than recant their faith. Most of us have not been called like that, but we all have access to the marvelous gifts that come from God by the power of his Holy Spirit! Each of us has his own gift from God, “one of one kind, and one of another.” Gifts are given according to the purpose of God, not our own desires, and yet we are empowered to ask! If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
We thank you for your promise to give us your Holy Spirit as we ask, and for the gifts only you can give us to fulfill your purpose!
