Walk by the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16-18, But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

In our daily walk, we know all too well the siren song of the desires of the flesh, at least if we are honest. There is a war within us, as Paul writes elsewhere, “For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.” And yet he gives us the great good news, that we are delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit who comes as we invite him, and who brings forth his good fruit: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” And he delights to answer those who ask: “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” Have you asked him to fill you with his Holy Spirit today?

Fill me with your Holy Spirit today, O Lord, that he may overflow to touch others in this sin-sick world with his amazing gifts.
