“that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
John 14:12-14, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
Jesus did amazing works and yet he says his disciples will do even greater works. We do all kinds of things to get recognition from the world, for that is a powerful motivator. These greater things will be done not for our own recognition, but “that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” It’s easy to read this and think that there is some way of asking that will get us anything that we want. Jesus made it clear that he and the Father are one, that he is the “perfect manifestation of the Father” and he is seeing what the Father wants to do. Without Him we are able to do nothing that will be of any eternal value. Are we abiding in him today to see what we can ask in his name to make an eternal difference?
Fill us with your Holy Spirit that we may abide in you to bring glory to your name!
