His own possession.

Titus 2:11-14, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus; who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

We start with something that He has done, for it is by grace we are saved through faith. The first definition in Webster’s dictionary for grace is the “unmerited divine assistance given man for his regeneration or sanctification.” I know for sure that in my own strength I cannot always deny ungodliness and worldly desires. I know that even with His strength, I frequently stumble and fall, and that I also fail to be zealous for good deeds. Even though I know I can’t depend upon myself, I can always depend upon Him, for He has done it all and He is always ready to help me. He is our blessed hope!

Come, Holy Spirit, I need Your help in every situation, to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, and to be Your possession.
