Our God is a consuming fire.
Hebrews 12:27-29, And this expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, in order that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.
We have trees near our home that have been here long before we were born, and some of those will no doubt be here long after we are gone. And yet there are others that have succumbed to a season of drought or blight since we moved here, representing the things that clearly can be shaken. Our physical world seems very real at times, in contrast to His kingdom built upon the gift of faith, the only one that will last forever. Do we really appreciate and seek out our opportunities for serving Him who is a consuming fire?
Show us the ways to serve that build into Your eternal kingdom, that will be purified by Your consuming fire!
