That what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled.

Matthew 21:4-5, Now this took place that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold your King is coming to you, gentle, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

There were no surprises for Jesus; He knew where He was going. Even the details of where to find this donkey were known to Him as He made His way to the last supper, the cross, the empty tomb and the resurrection. And having rescued us through the cross, He wants to show us His way, that we might know Him better every day.
