Calculate the cost.
Luke 14:27-28, “Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?”
I don’t like these ideas because they are hard! Paul writes of filling up the afflictions of Christ, we’d rather focus on His blessings. How many times have I walked right past my own cross without recognizing it? Jesus asks us to consider the cost and it is certainly a cost that I could never pay. He has paid the price, and He wants me to follow Him in His way, the way of the cross. The world comes at me with its distractions, can I see His way, and carry my own cross and come after Him?
Lord, I need Your help even to see the cross that You have given me; I need Your strength to bear it and to come after You.
