The one who loves his brother.
1 John 2:7-9, Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. The one who says he is in the light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. The one who loves his brother abides in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
This might well be the oldest commandment given to a man by God, for when Cain realized that Abel’s sacrifice was acceptable to the Lord and his own was not, God challenged his anger: “If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” Cain could not master sin on his own and neither can I. It is only by His amazing grace demonstrated on the cross and by the power of His rising and by His Holy Spirit am I able to walk by faith in His light!
Come, Holy Spirit, for I continually turn towards the darkness on my own; lead me and guide me into Your light today!
