Be imitators of me.

1 Corinthians 4:16, I exhort you therefore, be imitators of me.
Paul had won the right to say this, by filling up the afflictions of Christ.

Despite what we hear from certain popular television preachers, prosperity and temporal abundance was not the way of Jesus or the apostles. Paul recounts in this passage that they were seen as those condemned to death, homeless, fools, ragged, reviled and persecuted. In other passages we see him shipwrecked, snake-bitten, jailed and ultimately martyred for the name of Jesus. How many of us, with all our blessings, could join with Paul in exhort others as he does: “be imitators of me?”

Help me to follow You so closely that no matter what my circumstances I can indeed join with Paul to exhort others to be imitators of me.
