The pure milk of the word.

1 Peter 2:1-3, Therefore, putting aside all malice and all guile and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.

It's almost like Peter is asking us to bypass some kind of worldly buffet in favor of the "sincere milk" of God's word, as the King James translation puts it. It's easy to let our imagination run away with thoughts of making someone pay for a presumed wrong, all the while smiling happily. He asks us to lay down our masks, to put others first and to recognize the difference between a true prayer request and a desire to propagate hear-say about someone. A banquet like that will no doubt produce some severe indigestion! His pure mile of the word instead produces spiritual growth in His amazing grace.

We long for the pure milk of Your word that we may humble ourselves in Your presence, seeking the best for all whom You send to us.
