But they did not understand this statement.

Luke 9:43-45, And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples, "Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men." But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they might not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.

What Jesus said to them didn't make sense in light of what they had seen Him do. He had healed the boy from a ferocious demon, something that none of the disciples had been able to do, and yet He made a statement like this. We know that His wisdom and purpose is far above our own, and that we don’t always understand what He is doing. He does encourage us to ask, and to seek, but most of all to trust that His plans are working. For as He was indeed "delivered into the hands of men," He "who had no sin became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God."

We seek to know Your ways, yet even when we don’t understand we trust in You, Lord!
