Suffering and patience.
James 5:10-11, As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
Over and over in scripture we see prophets sent by a compassionate and merciful God who were rejected, mistreated and even killed by the unrighteous, suppressing the truth. Few, if any of us, have been steadfast in the face of trials as was Job, yet even before the cross he was able to proclaim that our redeemer lives and “at the last He will stand upon the earth.” Indeed, He who stood upon the earth, sent out of the great compassion and mercy to save the world, suffered at the hands of the unjust, that He might justify all who receive Him. Are we willing to be steadfast in a time when the unrighteous are suppressing the truth for His name?
Give us boldness and strength for our own day to proclaim Christ as the way, the truth and the life that many may receive Him!
