And they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria.

Acts 8:1-3, And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him. But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.

God’s ways are not our ways, and our ways are not His ways, for His purpose is higher than our purpose. Even this persecution was used by Him to “jump-start” the dissemination of the gospel into the surrounding region. And over the centuries, oppressive regimes have declared all faith in Christ to be dead, yet the resolve of the real believers is thereby strengthened. And even in prison, amazing things happen to spread this good news, as Saul, soon to become Paul, will one day see for himself. Are we willing to count the cost and follow Christ no matter where it leads?

Lord, give us courage to follow wherever You lead us.
